Impact enhancement of the out-of-plane behaviour of honeycombs

摘要

In this study, out-of-plane compressive experiments were carried out on an aluminiumnhoneycomb core both dynamically and quasi-statically. An obvious enhancement of about 25%nwas found for the dynamic loading experiments compared with the quasi-static ones. Furtherninvestigation using the finite element method showed a good agreement with the experimentalnresults and indicated differences in deformation at different loading rates. Finally, based on thensimulation results, the explanation of the impact enhancement based on the inertia protectednmechanism is validated.
