Our position as professionals within the engineering community has never been more threatened. The reintroduction of a bill to the Victorian Parliament is currently seeking the registration of engineers in that state with lighting excluded as a discipline. This same bill, by a different name, was voted down by the Victorian Parliament last year. This bill is greatly driven by Engineers Australia, who have been less than helpful to our cause in the past. If passed, and it looks as though it will be, it will setup a similar situation to what we currently experience in Queensland and we suspect may also follow shortly in New South Wales.
