摘要

The mechanical property requirements of tribological ceramic coatings are discussed, and the ratio of hardness (H) to elastic modulus (E) is cited as an important parameter in optimising performance. Developments m multilayered and nanocomposite coatings are outlined, which permit the achievement of controlled H/E ratios, and thus improved tribological properties.
