This volume, in honour of Sir Adrain Smith, contains 33 papers split into 12 sections covering a wide range of topics, including fundamental notions of Bayesian statistics, the implementation of Bayesian statistic methodology using Monte Carlo methods and applications of Bayesian methods in finance, medicine and engineering. This wide range of topics reflects the far-reaching influence of Professor Smith's pioneering work in statistical research. The structure of the volume owes much to the editors' desires to have a 'Bayesian textbook' flavour with most sections containing an overview/tutorial paper followed by more narrowly focused papers illustrating state-of-the-art Bayesian statistics. The useful introductions to the many and varied topics together with the extensive bibliographies make this a useful addition to a statistician's library, providing an insightful introduction to many areas of Bavesian statistics.
