摘要

The application of conventional refraction statics to S-wave data uses first-break picks from pure S-wave refracted arrivals. In this paper, S-wave refraction statics are modified to use first-break picks from converted-wave refracted arrivals. These converted refractions consist of a downgoing P-wave which travels along the refractor as a P-wave and converts into an upgoing S-wave. An advantage of this statics approach is that the converted refraction is more distinct than a pure S-wave refraction and consequently, it is easier to pick than a pure S-wave refraction. A comparison between conventional refraction statics and converted refraction statics for S-wave data from a South Texas site is shown to yield comparable statics solutions with a maximal static shift of about 30 milliseconds.
