In terms of its practical and theoretical meaning, the problem of personality is one of the fundamental problems in Marxist psychology. Its elaboration has a direct connection with solving the task of creating the new man. As our starting point and basis for investigating the nature of personality, we took the methodological principles of analysis of personality that have been formulated within the framework of the general psychological theory of activity (A.N. Leontiev). In one of his last unpublished works, Leontiev gives the following description of the object of personality psychology: The personality is not identical to the individual. It is a special quality, which is acquired by the individual in society, in the aggregate of relations, social in nature, into which the individual is drawn. The essence of the personality lies in the "ether" (Marx) of these relations.... In other words: personality is a systemic and therefore "suprasensual" quality, although the bearer of this quality is a fully sensual and bodily individual with all the innate and acquired properties of the latter.
