Relationship between Children's Emotional Attitude Toward Their Peers and the Conditions of Their Activity

Evidence from many studies suggests that children's practical cooperative activity is an essential condition for the emergence and existence of children's relationships, as well as their development. A series of psychological studies was conducted to investigate the influence of specific conditions of cooperative practical activity on the development of children's relationships: the influence of the motive for an activity and how the activity was organized (Kholmovskaia, 1972); the nature of problems or tasks a study confronts children with (Iakobson and Shchur, 1977); and the motivation involved in and success of an activity, as well as certain organizational conditions of cooperative play ("together" or "parallel play") (Petrovskii, 1982). Cooperative activity serves as a means of shaping the very forms relationships take: collaboration, mutual assistance, and collectivism (Zhukovskaia, 1972; Pen'evskaia, 1972; Bure, 1980; Rudovskaia, 1982; and others).
