The Measurement of Annual Hours of Work

摘要

This paper deals with some conceptual aspects and measurement problems encountered in the collection and estimation of data on annual hours of work, with reference to the Italian experience. The measurement of the amount of hours worked meets three different objectives: a) satisfying the needs of national accounts (building employment estimates consistent with those of Gross Domestic Product); b) measuring labour input for the purpose of building partial and multi-factor productivity estimates; c) analysing structural aspects and trends in the labour market.
