Mango is local tree commonly found everywhere in Thailand. This wood is used mainly in the rural area for furniture, and building decoration components. It is not popularly used as structural components because of the lack of its engineering data for decision making. Therefore, the objective of this research is to study physical and mechanical properties of Mango. Then the statistical properties under the confidence level of 99 percent and failure probability calculation would be carried out. The research scope covers three building types i.e. residence, offices, and schools. The building height is limited to two storeys and floor-to-floor height is 3 meters. The building design is in accordance with E.I.T. Standard (The Engineering Institute of Thailand under His Majesty the King s Patronage). Finally, the appropriate size of each structural component would be recommended. Results showed that most properties could be represented by normal distribution. Analyses of structural members spanned 3 meters were based on the accepted values of failure probability less than 10~(-4) for the deflections of joist and beam, less than 10-6 for short term loading, and 10~(-2) for long term loading. The size for each component was recommended as followed: 1 1/2×10 inch joist could be used in residence, and school which received live load of 150 kilogam./meter~2, and 300 kilogam./meter~2, respectively. For office building, 1 1/2×14 inch joist could be used to received live load of 250 kilogam./meter~2. The appropriate spacing of joist is 30 centimeter for all building type. 2-2×14 inch beam was recommended for residence and school. Whereas 2-2 × 18 inch beam was recommended for office. For columns, mango is not recommended for use in all cases.
