On February 12, 2009, Advocate General Trstenjak delivered her opinion to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) in the case Infopaq International v. the Danish Newspaper Publishers' Association. This case raised the matter of the balance between the protection of copyright and the technological development in the information society. Advocates General play a special role within the ECJ, as they assist the judges with each case and deliver their impartial and independent opinions, effectively paving the way for the judge's opinion. Although the opinions of the Advocates General do not bind the judges, they generally correspond with the judges' final decisions.
