Nine years isn't long in cattle showing circles. But already the Priestland Holstein herd, from Bushmills in Co Antrim, has chalked up plenty of successes. And, says owner Iain McLean, his family hope there will be more to come. Iain and his wife Joyce, along with sons John and Matthew and daughter Ellie, manage the 118-hectare unit at Priestland Farm, where the 130-cow pedigree Priestland herd, plus almost 200 head of young stock, is based. The herd's current rolling 12-month average yield exceeds 10,000 litres, at 4.30% butterfat and 3.19% protein, with an average SCC of 119,000 cells/ ml. Milk is sold to LacPatrick Dairies.
