We would like to comment or address further a few issues brought up by the discussers in their discussion.rnValanis's definition (Valanis 1985) has been used in our present and previous studies on strain softening (Chu et al. 1992, 1993a,b, 1996; Chu and Lo 1993, 1994; Chu and Leong 2001; Wanatowski et al. 2008). The selection of Valanis's definition was based on a review of different definitions of strain softening by Chu et al. (1992).
