It is a rather recent phenomenon in the context of EU labour migration: migrants from European low-wage countries have a comparably high educational profile in relation to nationals in western destination countries, yet they primarily tend to do low-level jobs in the 'traditional' sectors of hospitality, service, construction and care. This under-utilisation of human capital is the main topic of this volume, a phenomenon that the editors identify as 'one of the biggest challenges facing intra-EU labour mobility in recent years' (p. 37). The book is divided into three parts: Part 1 investigates different types of cross-border mobility and the associated skills-job mismatch; Part 2 looks at selectivity in return migration; and Part 3 outlines policy implications of inner-European labour mobility.
