Contemporary transformations in the structure of the international system are as much scholarly substantial to contemplate on as politically consequential to act on. The rise of Brazil, Russia, India and China, the so-called BRIC countries, in power, influence and status in international relations, and the causes, processes and implications thereof for the international system, can be seen as an unmistakable major transformation in global politics.
