TECHNOLOGY FOR ACCESS SERVICES

Love it or hate it, there has been a growing trend toward self-service in libraries. Whether motivated by meeting patron demands for more independent control over access to information or a desire to utilize limited staff resources in the most effective ways, libraries have been on this course for quite some time, beginning with open stacks and continuing through OPACs and GUI databases. Self-checkout is the latest service rapidly being implemented in all types of libraries.
