All roads lead to Rome

Yet another McDonald's restaurant opened its doors in Italy on 16 December 2016. For once we don't want to talk about the number of chips, burgers or cokes sold in the fast-food restaurant, however, which is located in Marino in greater Rome, around 20 km southeast of the presumed site of the 'Golden Milestone' in the Forum Ro-manum - said to be the very centre of the Roman Empire. What we want to talk about here is the fact that thousands of years ago people shod in Roman sandals walked 'through' the restaurant. Today some guests might be drawn to the McDonald's, opened in February four years ago, by a wish to see 45 m of an old Roman road, a side road of the Via Appia, built in 312 BCE.
