摘要

It will be of little surprise that nearly two-thirds of respondents to IPG's web poll on nuclear power have recently voted 'public perception' as the biggest obstacle to a nuclear renaissance. 'Investment' was a distant second. 'Technology' didn't even register, which will please the IAEA. Could the person that has the waste disposal issue conclusively worked out pass on the details to Vienna? Voices of support for the return of nuclear power have been growing for a few years now, whispering at first but now building up to a crescendo. Even the environmentalists have eased their hard-line opposition as the realisation dawns that if carbon levels are to be cut, a few 20MW windfarms alone might not keep the lights on. "The love that dare not speak its name" was the headline in one recent newspaper.
