Distributed generation has the capability to adapt its technology to suit any number of applications. In recent times it has needed to, as the slump in fortunes of the combined heat and power market, especially in Europe, has reduced orders for manufacturers of gas engines. However, the need for standby power, black start capability, compressors and industrial power solutions has kept engine technology evolving. Reciprocating machines have reached such an advanced stage that incremental steps in technology are the new challenge.
