A beautiful MIND for NorNed

Fredrik Ruter, ABB project manager for the NorNed link's HVDC cables, outlines the MIND [mass impregnated non-draining] submarine cable systems that will provide the world's longest underwater high voltage power transmission link. International power trading is well established in the northern countries of Europe, and Scandinavia in particular, thanks to the large number of high voltage direct current (HVDC) power links created over the past 40 years. These include: the Konti-Skan link between Sweden and Denmark; the Skagerrak link between Norway and Denmark; the Baltic cable between Sweden and Germany, the Kontek link between Denmark and Germany; the Swepol link between Sweden and Poland.
