Keeping the order books healthy ensure continued financial success in the longer term. MHI's future looks rosy therefore as in fiscal 2004 it increased its order book by ¥20.6 billion (US$190 million approx) to ¥691.4bn ($6.4bn). It received orders for 23 gas turbines with a backlog of 71 units. Not surprisingly therefore, the company is involved with a number of combined-cycle plant, including SE Asia and Latin America. A notable order was for a replacement steam generator at a US nuclear plant. Sales figures for the year running to 31 March 2005, were up by ¥79.5bn ($736m), again due to the strength of the global CCGT market. In Japan, MHI has been doing well in the distributed generation industry, mainly with engines. Indeed, the company has been busy this year with its engine operations.
