Iain Lister, director generator service technology, Alstom Power Service, UK looks at the use of emergency response planning (ERP) for an effective maintenance strategy. In today's commercial environment, unplanned outages have a significant affect on revenues, and hence reliability, availability and maintainability of plant are key factors. Emergency response planning (ERP), combined with real-time monitoring can have significant beneficial impacts on unplanned and planned outage durations. In simple terms, Unit Disaster Recovery is the failure of a component, requiring an unplanned outage, with the potential for significant time duration. Usually associated with such an outage are the supplies of major spares, which tend to form the critical path for repair.
