Two elections, six months apart. After the controversy of their foreign policy since 2000, Messers Bush and Blair could have been forgiven for casting nervous eyes over the ballot boxes as the populations of the US and UK went to the polls. The results prove that despite a lot of hot air from opposition parties, politicians can fool all of the people all of the time, get away with it and even get voted back into power. The war on Iraq clearly did not plague the consciences of British and American people too much. Domestic issues were of far greater importance. In neither election, however, did energy policy become a key debating issue. More's the pity.
