Outsourcing water

Providing water treatment services is a growing market, in recent months it would appear that GE has recognised this by purchasing the treatment company Ionics. IPG visits one of its installations in the UK. International water treatment company Ecolochem has found itself in the unusual position of being sold twice in one year. In February 2004 it was bought by water service company Ionics only for global giant GE to buy Ionics in a deal worth around US$1.1 billion in late November of the same year. With the completion of the transaction a few weeks ago, Ionics, is now part of GE Infrastructure's Water & Process Technologies business unit.
