Gas engines are attractive because of their versatility. They are powered primarily with natural gas and propane as well as by established 'renewable' sources such as landfill methane and biomass fuel. However, even newer, lesser-known 'speciality gas' applications are gaining in commercial acceptance as the world seeks to address its energy supply and environmental concerns. These speciality gases include methane that builds up in coal mines, as well the converter (LD) gas by-products created by the LD-steel-making process.
