Hooped Pelton runner

To provide an alternative solution against the stress risk of traditional cast Pelton runner, Alstom has developed the concept of a hooped Pelton. Patented in 1880 by Lester Allen Pelton, the design of the Pelton runner has changed very little. The technology has seen a number of changes: forged, welded, cast and sometimes with separated buckets. Until recently, the most common design was a one-piece casting.
