International Comparison of Charpy Impact Test

An international comparison of Charpy impact test was made. The organization which participated in the comparison were NIST(USA), LNE(France), IRMM(European Commision) and NRLM(Ja- pan). This atudy was the first horizontal comparison between these metrological laboratories. The Japanese specimens at three different energy levels were tested according to JIS 7722(1990) by each laboratory. The results showed that the CV values ranged from 0.02 to 0.04, and most of absorbed en- ergies were within ±2J or the ±5 limit of the grand average. IN addition, other verification speci- mens provided by the participating laboratories were tested by the NRLM standard impact machine. The results for the test were all within ±2J or the ±5 limit except for NIST specimens with the 2 mm striker. The comparison procedures and the experimental results in NRLM are presented.
