A thermal impedance has been introduced for the solution of thenproblem of the thermoelastic interaction of surface acoustic waves (SAW)nin solids. The analytic thermal impedance is obtained for isotropicnsolids from the weak thermoelastic coupling approximation. The value ofnthermal impedance obtained depends only on three parameters: thenisothermal SAW velocity, the SAW velocity for the case withoutndissipation of heat from the solid surface, and a thermal impedancenwithout acoustic waves. The extended approach allows us to investigatenand analyze the effect of different surface layers and continuousnmaterials on the thermoelastic attenuation and velocity dispersion ofnthe SAW.
