The effect of material properties and dimensional changes on the fundamental resonance frequency of the cymbal transducer has been investigated using the ANSYS(R) finite element software. Vibration mode shapes, resonance frequencies, and admittance spectra for both air- and water-loading are calculated. Very good agreement is observed between the modeled and experimentally measured admittance spectra in the frequency range up to 200 kHz, establishing the validity of the model. The calculations show that the fundamental resonance frequency can be manipulated easily by changing the cymbal cap material or dimensions.
