Companies in the oil and gas industry rely upon acquisition ofnaccurate downhole pressure data for management of reservoir resources.nPressure data must be acquired in extreme environments present in wells,nincluding high pressures, high temperatures, and high levels of shocknand vibration. A primary concern of oil and gas companies is thatnpressure transducers provide reliable data throughout the duration ofnwell-testing jobs. Important performance parameters for well-testnpressure gauges include inaccuracy arising from nonlinearity,nhysteresis, nonrepeatability, and temperature. Accurate pressurenmeasurements are required for determination of reservoir resources.nSensor output per unit pressure (sensitivity) and the correspondingnminimum resolvable pressure (resolution) are important performancenconsiderations. Pressure resolution is the key parameter for dynamicnwell-test analyses used to determine reservoir properties. Designnlimits, including maximum allowable pressure over the operatingntemperature range, also must be known. Pressure transducers must retainnacceptable performance characteristics including accuracy, sensitivity,nand resolution for long periods of operation to provide reliable datanand reduce the frequency and cost of recalibration. This paper describesna unique quartz thickness-shear mode sensor that was developed forndownhole pressure measurements.
