Harmonic ultrasound imaging has received great attention fromnultrasound scanner manufacturers and researchers. Here, the authorsnpresent a computer model that can generate realistic harmonic images. Innthis model, the incident ultrasound is modeled after then“KZK” equation, and the echo signal is modeled using linearnpropagation theory because the echo signal is much weaker than thenincident pulse. Both time domain and frequency domain numericalnsolutions to the “KZK” equation were studied. Realisticnharmonic images of spherical lesion phantoms were generated for scans byna circular transducer. This model can be a very useful tool for studyingnthe harmonic buildup and dissipation processes in a nonlinear medium,nand it can be used to investigate a wide variety of topics related tonB-mode harmonic imaging
