Presents a method for characterizing the linear field of any flat,ncontinuous-wave annular array in terms of a set of knownnlimited-diffraction Bessel beams. The technique uses Fourier-Besselnseries to model the surface pressure of the transducer surface, withneach term in the series giving rise to a Bessel beam with knownnpropagation parameters. The analysis is applied numerically to twondifferent transducers discussed previously in the literature. In bothncases, a deeper understanding of the field emitted than was previouslynavailable is gained. Brief outlines for extending the technique tonpulsed wave and non-annular arrays are also given
