The peanut husk was introduced as a low-cost adsorbent for the efficient removal of Sunset Yellow (SY) dye from aqueous solution in this paper.To make a clear account of the influence of factors, such as adsorption time, adsorbent dosage and initial SY concentration as well as temperature on SY adsorption, we have tested and analyzed the maximal adsorption capacity,which is up to 25.89mg·g~(-1) under the conditions of peanut husk dosage of 2 g·L~(-1),the pH of 2.00 and the adsorption time of 24 h at the temperature of 293K with an initial concentration of 95 mg·L~(-1).The results also indicate that adsorption equilibrium could be more effectively described by Langmuir isotherm equation when compared to the Freundlich isotherm model.The thermodynamic constants of the adsorption process were also evaluated by using constants derived from Langmuir isotherms, which suggest an exothermic physical adsorption process which runs spontane-ously.In addition, we have examined the controlling mechanisms of the adsorption process, and found that the pseudo second-order model can provide a better fit to experimental data. The results of our study reveal that the peanut husk proves to be an efficient adsorbent for the removal of SY from aqueous solution.
