Meet Marty Sedlacek, account executive, Dell Computer. Marty is married, has a 9-month-old son, and lives in a new four-bedroom house on a cul-de-sac in Round Rock, Texas, just a seven-minute drive from the office. Unfortunately, for long stretches Marty spends more time in airplanes than he does in his car, more nights in hotels than he does in his house, more time with clients than he does with his son. In a normal week, he leaves Austin on the 7:07 a.m. Tuesday flight to O'Hare, rents a car at the airport, dives into a packed four-day schedule of sales calls, and flies home Friday night. Saturday morning, he drops off his shirts and suits at the cleaners; Monday afternoon, after the weekly sales meeting at headquarters, he picks them up. One cycle ends, the next begins.
