Still dazzled by the proposed merger of Daimler-Benz and Chrysler? Think about this: Assuming the merger is completed as planned, DaimlerChrysler will be less than three-fifths the size of Ford Motor Co., measured in unit sales, and five years behind it in building an integrated global auto business. Sure, Chrysler gains some German engineering, and Daimler adds some more brands to its portfolio, but Ford still trumps both in product depth and worldwide reach.
