You'd think L. Roy Papp would have at least phoned his office the day the government filed suit against Microsoft-he controls roughly half a million Microsoft shares, worth about $40 million. But the Phoenix money manager was on vacation in northern Italy and wasn't about to let the Department of Justice and a phalanx of state attorneys general mess up his day. So he went boating near Lake Como, figuring he could wait and read about the suit in the next day's papers. "I didn't think the news was that important," Papp recalls. "If I had heard Microsoft had terrible sales, I would have been more concerned."
