Last year saw larger and more varied natural disasters in the U.S. than at any time in recent memory. From devastating wildfires in Texas to great floods in the Midwest to fatal tornadoes in Missouri and Alabama, the public-safety community was put to the test. One of the most significant challenges that first responders continue to face is the lack of adequate communications infrastructure in rural areas. Without a system that is able to meet unanticipated disaster-related traffic from a plethora of public-safety officials, emergency response is compromised greatly. This puts area residents at greater risk and prevents first responders from fulfilling their pledge to protect those they serve.
