Roughly half of all cellphone users today are carrying smartphones, and the market penetration rate is expected to reach nearly 100% in just a few more years. Some believe that when smartphones achieve ubiquity pagers will become extinct, due to the former's text and e-mail capabilities, and because people generally don't want to carry multiple devices if they don't have to. But Roy Pottle, president of the newly christened Critical Messaging Association and the CEO of American Messaging, firmly believes that the rumors of the death of pagers have been greatly exaggerated.
