REPORT ON 'IMPACT OF INFORMATION ON DECISION-MAKING'

Since 1992 IDRC had been involved in supporting research in response to the question "Is it possible to measure the impact of information on the development agenda setting process?" In attempting to answer the question, IDRC undertook a comprehensive process of electronic conferencing, consultations, model building, hypothesis testing by global case studies, and publications. This research reached a point of examining the results of the findings from the case studies, and determining the validity of the methodology for identifying assessment indicators to measure the impact of information on the decision-making process. These results need to be disseminated and discussed in an international arena; and as a result of these discussions, identify what lessons have been learned and, if necessary, pursue new research issues that have evolved from the first phase of investigations. Due to a change in IDRC program focus and resulting reduction in in-house qualified information science researchers, this important follow-up work was contracted to FID to complete.
