Many developing countries continue to face severe impediments to trade expansion, both within the international arena and among each other. A major obstacle limiting the potential and capacity of developing countries in international trade is that many of them are still at a primary level of production. Also, many countries such as primary product producers export goods similar to those of their neighbors or at best try to do so. By trading the goods in which it has a comparative advantage, a country experiences gains, both from specialization and from exchange.
