ALIEN INVASION!

In February 2004 the IMO adopted the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships' Ballast Water and Sediments aimed at eliminating - or at least minimising - the problem of alien species carried in ships" ballast tanks. The existence of such a problem is not really in question, although it is fair to say that more alien species have been introduced by deliberate act or carried on ships' hulls than ever were spread through ballast water.
