Setting standards for short sea ships

Short sea ships come in a variety of guises with some being designed for specific tasks and others created as jack of all trades. A new EU project aims to create a new type of ship that can cover both roles. Shortsea shipping is a successful and well established mode of transport in Europe, one that is expected to see significant growth in the next decade, and play a key role in securing the objectives of European transport policy. To do so, however, new shortsea solutions will need to be developed, and new vessels built to replace the large number of existing vessels that are approaching the end of their lives.
