Last month Solutions featured the new heavyweight in the boxship sector. This month the limelight turns on another ship from the Maersk fleet. Superficially similar - if much smaller - Maersk Boston has a special talent of its own and is perhaps the fastest container carrier afloat. In parallel with realisation of the Emma Maersk post-Panamax design at Odense, AP Moller/Maersk has, in co-operation with its German yard subsidiary Volkswerft Stralsund, developed another Panamax box design. As with its larger sister there is a relatively wide forward-positioned engineroom. However, with its arrangement of nine deck bays forward and eight aft of the accommodation block, the main engine of the Maersk Boston is placed even more forward than on its bigger relatives, which have 13 deck bays forward and 10 aft.
