IMO regulations that came into force on 1 January 2007 impose stricter rules for carriage of chemicals and vegetable oils in bulk and introduce a raft of new MARPOL and SOLAS requirements. New rules on carrying vegetable oils in bulk are among the changes introduced by amendments to MARPOL. The revised Annex Ⅰ now includes mandatory double bottoms in the pump room on oil tankers of 5,000 tonnes deadweight and above constructed on or after 1 January 2007. Revised Annex Ⅱ Regulations introduce a new four-category categorisation system for noxious and liquid substances.
