The accelerated phase-out of single-hull tankers has created a bonanza for builders and equipment-makers alike, including those that manufacture cargo pumps and pumping systems. MARPOL Annex Ⅱ, which came into force on 1 January this year, also requires more efficient stripping arrangements on new vessels, which will be allowed only 75 litres of residue in place of the old allowance of between 100 litres and 300 litres depending on cargo type.
