Shortsea To Benefit From Lng Logistics Effort

Developing more LNG terminals where ships could bunker with LNG would encourage more owners to build environment-friendly vessels, and also see LNG become the'fuel of choice' for shortsea shipping, ferries, ro-ro vessels and ro-pax ships, according to the organisations involved in the MAGALOG project. As highlighted in the November 2008 issue, LNG has a number of economic and environmental advantages as a marine fuel. In some countries, such as Norway, increasing numbers of vessels are being built to operate on the fuel. However, LNG will only gain widespread acceptance as a marine fuel if the infrastructure exists to support it, so that ships can obtain bunkers.
