Action Sought On Confined Space Dangers

Having recently issued reports on a number of incidents in confined spaces on board vessels that led to the deaths of several seamen, the UK Marine Accident Investigation Branch and others, including the Vanuatu Administration, are seeking action at the IMO to tackle this longstanding but poorly understood problem. Describing these incidents, the MAIB said: "There can be few aspects of personal safety on board ships that have received more attention than the importance of following the correct procedures before entering a dangerous enclosed/confined space.
