EPA Great Lakes Guidance Hits a Squall

After years of study, debate, and revision, EPA released this spring the final version of one of its most ambitious rulemakings: the Great Lakes Water Quality Guidance. As EPA's first attempt to address water quality on a regional, basinwide basis, it paves the way for similar efforts for the Gulf of Mexico and other water bodies. It also contains groundbreaking new methodologies for calculating the impact of bioaccumulative chemicals and presents a two-tiered ranking system for addressing data uncertainty.
