Major U.S. human exposure assessment survey gets under way

Field work began this summer on the first major U.S. study of human exposure to multiple environmental agents. In six Midwestern states, Arizona, and the Baltimore, MD, region, research teams in the EPA-funded National Human Exposure Assessment Survey (NHEXAS) will conduct detailed analyses of a suite of chemical pollutants and pollutant exposure routes for more than 500 people. According to Dave Kleffman, EPA program director for NHEXAS, the effort is a preliminary step toward a nationwide exposure survey.
