Each year the CIEH receives numerous requests for data from its environmental health report. Because the local authorities returning questionnaires varies from year to year, it is not statistically accurate to make direct comparisons between different years' data and therefore no analysis of change over time is possible. This report attempts to address this situation by selecting a representative core of 100 local authorities who have submitted returns every year and analysing their results to produce a five-year trend analysis for a number of the most frequently requested data sets. The report is based on information provided on a voluntary basis by local authorities in England and Wales, in response to a questionnaire.
