The craze for body piercing is exposing its fans to the danger of injury and infection. Bury and Rochdale EHOs joined forces with the health authority to pinpoint ways of reducing the risks. Body piercing - defined as the practice of piercing parts of the human body into which jewellery is inserted - is becoming increasingly popular among all sections of our communities. This practice is now widely available in the UK. A survey conducted in 1994 by Insight indicated that there were 8,765 and 1,193 registrations by local authorities outside London and London boroughs respectively.
